Worked example
A worked example with fixed teaching numbers — not live odds, not a current opportunity.
$100 original bet at −110, paid early (≈$190.91 credited). Existing hedge $97.78 at −105 still live. Current live odds on the original side: −400. Neutralizing 100%:
On the original selection at −400 — both final outcomes then land at about +$31.31.
Neutralizing only 50% costs ≈$76.36 instead, but the two outcomes split to about +$12.22 and +$107.67 — less cash, more exposure. Members choose the balance per position.
How this works
The early payout credits your original return while the opposing hedge is still live. A new bet back on the original side, sized as neutralization% × (hedge stake × hedge odds) ÷ live odds, offsets the hedge's remaining exposure. At 100% the two final outcomes are approximately equal.
Before you bet — the checklist
- Confirm the promotion bet has ACTUALLY been settled — not just projected.
- Enter the total credited amount when it differs from the normal winning return.
- Use the exact same two-outcome market, and confirm no draw or third outcome remains.
- Recalculate immediately before placing the live wager — live odds move fast.
